The Kent Yamazaki & Bob Brett Tennis Foundation has been granted the opportunity to assist athletes financially where they meet the selection criteria aligning with the vision articulated in Bob’s coaching and life philosophy. The fund’s purpose is to assist young Australians who are under financial or other hardships, through tennis as a medium for play as well as social and physical growth.

Tennis West and the Kent Yamazaki and Bob Brett Tennis Foundation in working together to support the advancement of disadvantaged young people in tennis and provide accessible competitive playing opportunities for developing athletes around Australia, creating a sport that is barrier-free and rich in diversity!

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility Criteria
The Kent Yamazaki & Bob Brett Tennis Foundation is open to both males and females who fulfill the following criteria:

(i) Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
(ii) The applicant must have resided in Australia for at least the last six months;
(iii) The applicant must be 18 years of age or under at the 31st of April 2022;
(iv) The applicant should be supported by one of the following: Tennis Coach, Tennis/Sports Academies, Tennis Club, Tennis Australia branches, or Teacher. The supporting person will be required to submit an online reference by way of the separate Referee’s Form(link below).

Selection Criteria

The Kent Yamazaki & Bob Brett Tennis Foundation will be awarded to applicants who:
1. Are unable to pursue their tennis potential due to financial, geographical or social reasons.
2. Demonstrate ongoing commitment to their education.
3. Are considered to have competitive level tennis potential.

Assessment

In assessing an application, the Foundation may consider any one or more of the following factors:
(i) The circumstances of the applicant and the applicant’s family; 
(ii) The financial outlook for the applicant’s family; 
(iii) The geographical location of the applicant and the impact of that on the applicant’s tennis related expenses; 
(iv) The needs of the applicant in terms of tennis related expenses to reach potential; 
(v) The expected costs that the Applicant would need to expend in order to maximize their tennis potential during the scholarship year; and 
(vi) Any other factors the Foundation considers relevant.

Process & Guidance for Applications

If you wish to apply for a scholarship you must use the Online Application Form (link below), and the following information will be required:
(i)Contact details, including names, phone number, address, email
(ii)Player details, including name, date of birth
(iii)Details of a supporting Referee for example: your Tennis Coach, Tennis/Sports Academies, Tennis Club, Tennis Australia branches, or Teacher. The supporting person will be required to submit an online reference by way of the separate Referee’s Form(link below).

*Note, this reference should address the selection criteria (competitive potential, financial/geographical disadvantage, commitment to education), and should also speak to the player’s values and behaviours in alignment with The Kent Yamazaki & Bob Brett Tennis Foundation values
(iv)Consideration and details of individual factors for demonstrating ‘competitive potential’
(v)Consideration and details of factors to support the assessment of the application above.
(vi)Consideration of the financial support required (including types of expenses required to be covered and an estimation of the value)

Applications will only be accepted via online form. Incomplete applications and those not meeting the criteria above will not be considered.

Applicants and their families acknowledge that the Foundation’s selection panel has complete discretion in relation to decisions made in relation to any applications. The Foundation has limited funds and even though an applicant may meet selection criteria, there is no guarantee of award. All decisions of the Foundation are final.

All applications will be confidential. There will be no publicity of any successful applicants without prior consent.
